obit-petersonflagSURRY – Scott Ross Peterson, 94, reached the end of his earthly adventure on Sept. 24, 2016, in Surry. Scott was born in Oakley, Utah, on April 29, 1922, to Mark Harper and Marie Irma Ross Peterson. A U.S. Navy veteran, Scott earned a B.S. in animal science from Colorado A & M and an M.S. in trades and industrial education and administration from CSU. He and the former Elizabeth Anne McKim were married in 1946 and lived on the family ranch in Snyderville, Utah, until 1951, when they moved to Fort Collins, Colo.

Scott led an eclectic professional life, the majority of which was spent as a construction electrician, working on large projects across the U.S. and in Brazil, Greenland and Vietnam. As a vocational educator, he taught at a high school in Bucyrus, Ohio, and was a teacher-administrator at the Community College of Denver. He also served as a training director for nuclear power plants in New Jersey and Louisiana, and as a trainer and consultant in the Republic of Korea, Iran and Nigeria.

In 1997, Scott and Elizabeth purchased a mobile home community in Saratoga, Wyo., which Scott continued to manage after Elizabeth’s death in 1998. Scott tired of Wyoming winters in 2009 and moved to Surry, where he rebuilt an 1800s-era farmhouse.

Cecilia B. “Bobbie” Strohmeyer

obit-strohmeyer-2 obit-strohmeyer-1PROSPECT HARBOR – Cecilia B. “Bobbie” Strohmeyer died peacefully Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth. She was 83.

Bobbie was born on Dec. 25, 1932, in Media, Pa., to Cecilia B. Horn and James P. McQuaide. After having graduated from Garden City High School, she attended the University of Pennsylvania, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree with an occupational therapy major in 1954. Perhaps most notably, U. Penn. is where Bobbie met her future husband, George R. “Bob” Strohmeyer, also a graduate. Upon receiving her degree, Bobbie served in the armed services, resulting in the completion of her clinical practice. With an adventurous spirit, Bobbie embarked on a trip of a lifetime driving cross-country to Burbank, Calif., to accept a sought-after position working at Walt Disney Studios on the production of “Peter Pan.” Following this experience, Bobbie began painting earnestly and acquired a love of breeding and of showing Doberman Pinschers. The two passions intersected beautifully in a well-received series of oil paintings. Bobbie relocated with her family to New Hampshire and as her talent in painting progressed, her work was juried by the oldest art association in the United States, the Copley Society in Boston, Mass., which was founded in 1879, and she was bestowed the coveted title, “Copley Artist.” As further evidence of her skills, Bobbie’s aesthetic nature translated into a love of architectural design, resulting in three beautiful homes which the family had built over the span of 18 years. In addition, she utilized her educational degree and experience as an artist to develop an art therapy program at Hampstead Hospital in southern New Hampshire.

Given her well-known obsession with the sea, Bobbie was the driving force behind her family’s ensuing move to the New Hampshire seacoast, and eventually Cape Neddick. In retirement, Bobbie and Bob relocated to Prospect Harbor, where she expressed her talent in painting through technique in watercolor, often exploring the relationship between natural elements, with the rocky shoreline as a constant source of inspiration.

Over the course of her life, Bobbie wrote poetry, culminating with a powerful and reflective piece concerning the attack on 9/11 which was published in the regional newspaper. Her passionate beliefs about the injustices of war, lead her to contribute commentary in The New York Times on more than one occasion. Given her multiple talents and indomitable spirit, Bobbie had been described by those who knew her, as a modern day Renaissance lady. She spent her later years cultivating cherished friendships with those in the local community and keeping the company of their family’s loyal and communicative Doberman Pinscher, Mera.

Bobbie is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, George R. “Bob” Strohmeyer, of Prospect Harbor, her eldest son Kurt R. Strohmeyer and husband, John A. Llano, of Miami Beach, Fla., younger son Karl A. Strohmeyer and wife, Corey L. Strohmeyer, their two children Liesel James and Niklaus William, all of Boulder, Colo., brother James “Jim” P. McQuaide and wife, Phyllis McQuaide, of Bath, niece Karen L. McQuaide of Medford, N.J., nephew Michael J. McQuaide of Cinnaminson, N.J., granddaughter Sarah R. Gilman of Meredith, N.H., and grandson Nathan S. Albertson of Manchester, N.H. Bobbie was predeceased by her daughter, Lisa A. Albertson, of Laconia, N.H.

Contributions in Bobbie’s memory can be made to Doctors Without Borders at www.doctorswithoutborders.org/donate.

Arrangements in care of Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Condolences may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com.

Perry Harland Jordan

obit-jordanTOPSHAM – Perry Harland Jordan, of Topsham, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 21, 2016. He was 77.

Perry (or Bubba, as he was known to his family) was born in Waltham on May 11, 1939, the son of Asa and Dora (Grover) Jordan. He attended a one-room schoolhouse until the eighth grade and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1957, where he was the senior class president. He went on to get his B.S. in education from the University of Maine at Machias and his master’s and C.A.S. degrees from the University of Maine at Orono.

A lifelong educator, Perry taught in Kittery for three years and then in Bangor, where he became director of special Education. Perry was passionate about children with special needs, inspiring several of his children and grandchildren to work in the same field. He also served as school superintendent in Brewer, and after retirement filled in as interim superintendent in Orrington and Orland. When he became visually impaired and could no longer drive, he taught GED classes at the Mountain View Youth Center in Charleston, catching rides daily with a friend.

Another of Perry’s lifelong passions was art. He was a prolific and talented painter, relying on his memory to paint striking images of the Penobscot River, Maine birch trees, his own gardens and more. He often said his paintings were inspired by the works of Robert Frost, and his art was featured in galleries and local establishments throughout southern Maine. He was especially gifted at bringing neglected items back to life — he painted on old windows, weathered doors and driftwood and was known to scavenge Goodwill for frames for his art. His creativity and perseverance inspired the same in those around him.

Perry leaves behind his wife, Beckett Banfield Jordan; his three children, Kristen (Jordan) Perkins and her husband, Brian, Richard Jordan and his wife, Kris, and Elizabeth (Jordan) Davis and her husband, Jonathan; as well as his five grandchildren, Abigail, Laura, Benjamin, Nicholas and Elizabeth. His grandchildren were the great joy of his life. He is also survived by his siblings, Ellain Frost and her husband, Maurice, Joan Jordan and her husband, Phillip, and Ronald Jordan and his wife, Ann, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In his own words, Perry “lived a good life.” He had a big personality and an even bigger heart, and he will be missed by everyone who knew him.

The family will celebrate his life privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that you spend time and make memories with the ones you love.
