William S. Silsby, III, 70, died on April 20, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bangor. He was born on Nov. 26, 1951, in Bangor, the son of William S. Silsby Jr. and Lillian Hinckley Worcester.

Billy graduated from Ellsworth High School, Class of 1970. Following graduation, he attended the University of Maine at Orono, studying art and theatre. While working at Eastern Maine Medical Center, he became interested in the medical field and was accepted into the University of Vermont’s nuclear medicine program, transferring his studies there. As a nuclear med tech, Billy really shined. His incredible work ethic along with his loving, caring nature made him very popular with his co-workers and especially his patients, who would always request his care. His dedication made him an extremely valuable member of the team but required him to work many extra hours.

While still at the University of Vermont, he and some classmates on a whim decided to go on a road trip one Halloween to Montreal, Canada. That road trip changed his life forever as he met the love of his life, James Chandler. They were together for 36 years until James’s death in October 2018. Billy worked in major hospitals in Houston, Texas, Syracuse, N.Y., Hull, Ontario, and Hartford, Conn. The latter, Hartford, is where he and James lived for 30 years.

Billy is survived by his father, William S. Silsby Jr., of Aurora; his two brothers, Jon of Gorham and Rick and wife, Corinne, of Windham; sister Bonnie Silsby-Inman and husband, David, of Monrovia, Ind.; and three nieces, three nephews, a great-niece and a great-nephew. He was predeceased by his mother and husband.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1-2 pm, Monday, May 2, 2022, at Jordan Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth where a memorial service will follow at 2pm. Those who desire may make contributions in Billy’s memory to Country Villa Retirement Home, 509 Kenduskeag Ave, Bangor, ME 04401.
