
Penobscot
William L. Austin, 99, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at his home that he lived at for 70 years. He was born on Jan. 4, 1923, in Brooksville, the son of Edna (Grindle) and Blanchard Austin.
William was a U.S. Marine from 1942-1944. He worked for St. Regis Paper for over 30 years until he retired at the age of 60. William was very proud to be a Mason for 50 years. He served as a selectman for the town of Penobscot for over 20 years. In 2019, he was awarded the Golden Cane for being the oldest citizen of Penobscot.
William is survived by his sons, John of West Virginia and Robert of Penobscot; daughters Judy Mckay of Blue Hill and Janet Austin of Augusta; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son, Jerry, granddaughter Heidi and great-great-granddaughter Kloe.
A Masonic service will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Town House Road, Brooksville, on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at 1 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services Bucksport. (mitchelltweedie-young.com)
