Alice M. Kaspala, 81, passed away unexpectedly in her home July 20, 2021. She was born Sept. 16, 1939; the daughter of Earl and June Awalt Sr. She grew up in Surry and attended the local school and Ellsworth High School. She was well known for her beauty, sense of humor, kindness and generosity. Alice could be found relaxing at the Rafferty’s beach, worshipping at church or sitting at her kitchen table playing games and surrounding herself with love and family.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, Earl and June Awalt Sr.; three sisters, Eva Grindle, Marion Loper and June Comer; one brother, Ed Shepard; son Gregory Spurling; and beloved grandson Thomas “Bug” Taylor.
Alice is survived by her husband of 50 years, Thomas W. Kaspala Sr.; one brother, Earl “Buzzy” Awalt Jr.; five daughters, Karen and husband, Rob Owen, Brenda Taylor and partner Robert Leighton, Vicki and husband, Glen Ouellette, Mary and husband, Richard Hewitt, Lisa and husband, Mike Carter; four sons, Jack Kaspala, Neil Taylor Jr. and partner Barbie Patten, Richard and wife, Tammy Kaspala, and Thomas and wife, Tracey Kaspala Jr.
Alice was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom referred to her as “Gram.” She loved her family and showed each generation the love for the ocean and camping. Alice was the glue that held the family together. She will be remembered for the unconditional love for her family and her love for our Savior Jesus Christ.
