BLUE HILL
Lois W. Lock, 95, of Blue Hill, passed away peacefully June 22, 2020. She was born Feb. 18, 1925, in Newark, N.J., to Hazel Smith Wettlin and George F. Wettlin. She grew up and attended schools in Maplewood, N.J. Lois graduated Wellesley College in 1946 with a degree in zoology.
In 1947, she married Harry R. Lock, whom she met in a church choir. Their love of choral music kept them involved in the Episcopal Church during their years in New Jersey and later with the Bagaduce Chorale and Blue Hill Congregational Church after their move to Surry in 1976.
Lois loved sailing in the summer. Racing Lightning class boats at the Jersey Shore as a young woman and cruising the Maine coastal waters later in life with friends and family were favorite pastimes.
Lois enjoyed being outdoors gardening, walking and cross-country skiing. She had a deep interest and appreciation for the natural world. She adored and found great joy in the many cats and dogs she took care of over her lifetime.
Volunteering was an important part of Lois’s adult life. In New Jersey, she joined the Red Cross Motor Corps during World War II and worked as a nurses’ aide in several hospitals. In Maine, Lois was involved with Meals for ME in Blue Hill, Special Children’s Friends in Ellsworth and Hospice of Hancock County. She was an extremely generous mother, grandmother and friend.
After her husband died in 1993, Lois continued to live an active and satisfying life.
In October 2007, Lois moved to Parker Ridge in Blue Hill, where she joined several friends and acquaintances. She was an enthusiastic participant in the retirement community for her many years in residence. From her cozy, independent living apartment to her even cozier assisted living unit, Lois always felt that her decision to reside at Parker Ridge was the right one.
Known as a people person with a wicked sense of humor, Lois cultivated friendships with residents and staff members who were a vital part of her life.
She leaves behind her two beloved daughters, Denise E. Lock of Aspen, Colo., and Laura Lock Lamb of Nantucket, Mass.; son-in-law, Jay Lamb; beloved twin granddaughters, Madlyn and Jennifer Lamb; and numerous friends.

There are no plans for a celebration of life at this time due to the pandemic.
