He served four years as the chairman of the Acadia Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, while being instrumental in the construction of the Atlantic Salmon Heritage Museum, the only of its kind in the United States, located at the Craig Brook Hatchery in Orland. He was especially proud of his involvement in the cultivation and releasing of salmon fry into various rivers with many local public schools. Wally was also commodore of the Bucks Harbor Yacht Club from 1989-1991.
Wally was predeceased by his parents and sister, Susan Robertson, and nephew, Duncan. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jane, son Mark and his wife, Kim, of Eastham, Mass., and daughter Julie and her husband, Jim, of Hudson, N.H.
