Daniel Edgar Briggs. 59, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sept. 30 from declining health related to diabetes, COPD and congestive heart failure. He was born July 16, 1960, in Ellsworth to Ansel and Beverly (Perry) Briggs.
Following graduation from George Stevens Academy, Daniel joined the Navy, where he learned many trades as a Seabee. After the Navy, he worked many years at Lakehurst Naval Air Station alongside his father before moving back to Maine. Back home, he worked on a whale watching boat, at bartending and at his favorite pastime as a deejay. After losing his leg to diabetes, he kept busy by creating lawn sculptures from broken gardening tools.
Daniel is survived by his four children, Charity, Candace, Daniel Jr. and Brian, and by their children; his sisters Wanda and her husband, Alden Astbury, and Shelly and her husband, Steven Spivey; nephew Daryl Astbury, niece LeAnna Murphy, nephew Jacob Spivey and their families.
Also surviving is his stepmother Maria Briggs, stepsister Tania, stepbrother Charlie and half-brother Matthew; several aunts, uncles and a multitude of cousins from Downeast Maine.
He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents and other relatives too numerous to name.
Friends and family will remember Danny by his famous sayings, “It’s good to be seen!” and “Well, you bore me.” Per his request, there will be no services. Instead, there will be a barbecue in his honor in the spring.
