SURRY

Dominic Longo of Surry passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, with his family by his side. Dominic was born on Aug. 14, 1939, to Sarah and Dominico Longo and grew up in Gloucester, Mass.

He was married to the love of his life, Helen, on Dec. 11, 1961, and raised a large family, always providing for their needs working as a skilled carpenter and occasional furniture builder. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and his beloved New England sports teams especially the Patriots! He was an amazing Dad, Papa and Great Grand Papa, sharing his love of all things with his family (especially candy corner). Dad could make a boring day fun with music using anything from a vacuum hose to a banana as a microphone and some Meat Loaf or Oldies on the stereo with some awesome dance moves! (LOL) He was an amazing listener and seemed to always know when to offer advice or when to just be a sounding board. Dick was also a mentor/sponsor to many recovering from addiction, spending many hours lending an ear and a shoulder in support of their journey. Most of all he was a man who loved his children, grandchildren and especially his great-grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed immensely!

Dominic was predeceased by his wife Helen, parents Dominico and Sarah, brothers; Charlie and Joseph, sisters; Mary, Sarah and Tina and his oldest grandson Mark Stephen. He is survived by his brother Sonny and wife, Donna, and sister Dolly. His children Frederick, Michael and wife Jade, Catherine and partner Shannon, Patricia, Susan, Deborah Fitzgerald and husband, Keith, Sarah Hill and husband John, Karen and special daughter Debbie (McGrath) Peck. Grandchildren Jason and wife, Ashley, Johnathan, Christina, Jadelle, Jaime, Jeffrey, Alecia, Matthew and his partner Diana, Amanda, Johnny, Lawrie and her husband, Keyon, Bethany and her husband Travis, Steven, Theodore, Nyesha and special granddaughter Heather Gray. The lights of his life his great-grandchildren; Imogen, Alaiah, Amaiya, Cadence, Emmett, Lucas, Haily, Charlie, Dominic, Charlotte, Jason, Ryan, Averi, Declan, Nneka, Gracelyn, Kember, Kenslee, Bella, Devon and many nieces and nephews. He bought it when he saw it at Marden’s!

If you wish, donations may be made in Dominic’s name to: Ida Lockhart Residence C/O Yesterday’s Children, P.O. Box 829, Ellsworth, ME 04605.

CRANBERRY ISLES

Clara Francis Wedge, 85, died Dec. 7, 2018, in Ellsworth. She was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of John and Beatrice (Kelly) Pervear.

Clara grew up in Northeast Harbor and attended school there. At the age of 15 (which she would jokingly remind us, she didn’t have to), she married Karl Wedge and moved to Cranberry Island, to become the wife of a fisherman, to whom she was married to for 55 years, until Karl’s death. Cranberry Island became her beloved home where she surrounded herself with her children and friends, which she dearly loved. Clara always had a coffee pot on and an open table to share with her friends. She was a friend to all, kind, compassionate and always ready to put others first. She truly loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even a great-great grandchild. She was overjoyed to be spending time with them.

Clara was a simple woman and enjoyed the simple things of life like her well-loved dogs and many other animals and her intense love of music. She could be found daily having coffee with her friends, picking crabmeat, walking to the mail and cooking meals for the family, which always had enough room for one more!

As life would have it, Clara would see many trials, such as the loss of her son, but she got through by clinging to her faith. She was a member of Cranberry Isles Congregational Church.

Clara is survived by two sons, Russell Wedge of West Tremont and Kevin Wedge of Cranberry Isles, two daughters, Sonja Colby of Cranberry Isles and Karla Reed of Sullivan. Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Karl Wedge and a son, Keith Wedge.

Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Condolences may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com.

ELLSWORTH

Trudy Morley, 97, passed away on Nov. 26, 2018, at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth from complications after a fall on Nov. 15. Trudy was born on April 21, 1921, in Baden-Baden, Germany, the daughter of Hans (John) Lindenmann and Klara (Hedwig) Lindenmann.

Her father built houses for a living and her mother was a homemaker. The family immigrated to the United States, Port of Entry Ellis Island, in 1923, settling in Elgin, Ill., where Trudy grew up. Trudy fell in love with Fred Morley, a dapper, witty, kind and charming gentleman, and the two eloped in Trudy’s convertible in 1940. Being an only child, Fred’s six brothers and sisters, and all of their spouses, were a bonus for Trudy. Over the decades, they hosted many family holiday parties, summer cook-outs, card games and polkas at the club. Cooking and entertaining family and friends were passions for Trudy. She also enjoyed making crafts and was a talented seamstress.

Trudy and Fred had two sons, Douglas Spencer Morley, born in 1944, and Robert Jay Morley, born in 1946. Trudy worked as an operator and supervisor at Illinois Bell & Telephone (AT&T) for 30 years. She and Fred retired to Florida in 1973, very much enjoying their time there and visiting family frequently in their RV. They moved to Maine to be closer to family in 1994, settling in Lamoine. Trudy bravely “geared up” for the change of climate with long johns, flannel and fleece. She was very fortunate to make many wonderful new friends in the Downeast area, including through an active bereavement group that met monthly for years for lunch at Helen’s, which Trudy helped coordinate. Trudy volunteered at the Down East AIDS Network (DEAN) between 2003 until 2016, where she hand-wrote hundreds of thank you notes to donors, greeted clients and participated in a variety of activities to support their mission. At DEAN, Trudy was recognized for outstanding volunteer service in 2005, and in 2011 was given an award for Volunteer of the Century in recognition and appreciation for her continued support and active involvement at their agency and in the community. Trudy enjoyed humor and wit and was a good sport with the silly antics of Fred, her sons and her granddaughters.

Trudy was predeceased by her husband, Fred, in 1999, her son Robert in 2003 and her dogs Otis and Lulu. She is survived by her devoted son, Douglas, her beloved granddaughters Martina Morley and Amy Morley, her ex-daughter-in-law, Terry Morley, her niece Kathleen Mullen Schneider and her husband, Marvin Schneider, and their children Erika Schneider Feerer, Michael Schneider and Elizabeth Schneider and their spouses and children, her niece Patricia Mullen Cross and her niece Barbara Thorsson.

Trudy’s family wishes to express their gratitude for the exceptional care she received at Seaport Village Healthcare.

A celebration of the life of Trudy Morley will be held at Seaport Village located at 19 General Moore Way in Ellsworth on Friday, Dec. 14, from 3:30-5 p.m., officiated by Rev. Sara Hayman. The service will be held on the first floor of the assisted living section. Look for signage. All are welcome to attend.

ORLAND

Pamela Dorothy (Brookings) Hutchins passed in peace at her home in Orland on Dec. 10, 2018, surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma. She was born on Aug. 16, 1950, in Portland the daughter of Chester S. and Dorothy (Nevers) Brookings. She was raised in Bowdoinham and graduated from Brunswick High School. She married her husband, Barton, in 1970 and raised two children, Angela and Crystal. She graduated from the University of Maine with a master’s degree in special education. Pam taught in several school systems before moving on to her final career as a manager for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. Pam was an active member of her community. She enjoyed her local church, taking dancing lessons with her husband and in more recent years participating in activities with her multiple myeloma community. Pam was also a “helper,” spending time in the South providing hurricane relief to families and animals. In her final months she enjoyed many visits with the newest family member, her great-granddaughter.

Pam is survived by her husband, younger daughter, Crystal, her five grandchildren; Joseph and Ashlei Robbins, Cole, Grace and Camden Hatch, her great-granddaughter, Wynter Rose Schultz, her brothers; Rexford and Timothy Brookings, her sister Rebecca (Brookings) Benedict, her nephew Matthew Brookings and her niece Deana (Mansfield) Doherty.
