ELLSWORTH
Roland J. Dostie, 89, passed away Sept. 27, 2018, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. He was born in Winthrop, July 6, 1929, the son of Maurice and Marie A. (Cliché) Dostie.
Roland attended school in Winthrop and graduated from Winthrop High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in May 1948, after serving in the Maine State Guard and National Guard. He was stationed most of the time in Florida and then in Thule, Greenland (the first convoy to go there), and in Baltimore. On Aug. 12, 1950, he married Helen Frances Leland. After his honorable discharge, he worked at Bonafide Mills in Winthrop. Later he worked at General Dynamics in Groton, Conn., on missile submarines. In 1965, he moved back to Maine and built a new home in Winthrop. He worked with an electrician for a short time and then as a caretaker for an estate in Winthrop for 14 years. His last job was with his brother-in-law in Trenton for his various businesses.
Roland is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Lucille Dostie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Oct. 4, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 231 Main St., Ellsworth.
Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
