George “Punky” E. Bamford, Jr., 63, died at home after complications and a courageous battle with a long illness. He was surrounded by family and friends in Cherryfield on Sept. 9, 2018. George was born Aug. 3, 1955, at Fort Stewart, Ga., the son of George and Faye (Maclean) Bamford Sr.
George was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved camping, boating and the outdoors. George grew up clamming, worming and making wreaths. As a young man he drove race cars and his love of cars and the art of bargaining and making doughnuts were well known in the area. George drove a school bus for many years and is remembered fondly by many former students.
George was predeceased by his parents, George E. Bamford Sr. and Faye Maclean Bamford, and his beloved wife of 32 years, Marianne Daris Bamford. George is survived by his three sons, George Bamford III and his wife, Samantha, Norman Bamford and his husband, Brad, and Nathaniel Davisson and his husband, Sven, and by his loving fiancée, Sharon L. Perry, her daughters, Danielle and her husband, Andres Reyes, and Lisbeth Perry, 11 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts uncles and one great-granddaughter.
George was the oldest of five children and is survived by his sister Kathy and her husband, Russell Kippen, his sister Lisa and her husband, Mark Abplanalp, his sister Faith and her husband, John Schappart, and little brother Emery and his wife, Laura Bamford.
A celebration of George’s life will be held at Ashville Community Church 151 Ashville Road in Sullivan on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 3 p.m. Flowers and cards can be sent to 223 Milbridge Rd., Cherryfield, ME 04622.
