CHERRYFIELD
Gene MacQuarrie passed away Aug. 1, 2018, at a Milbridge nursing home. He was 75. He was born on Dec. 4, 1942.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Barbara Crabtree MacQuarrie. They were married for 54 years, but were together since he was 17 and she was 16.
He attended and graduated from EMVTI in 1966, and also taught classes on mechanics and welding in Bangor. He was one of the best mechanics around. Gene was a member of the Masons and received his 50-year pin. He loved to go snowmobiling and was an avid race car fan. He enjoyed going to Speedway 95 to help and watch his brother-in-law’s race car. Gene worked at Linnehans and Rappaports, which later became Van Syckle.
He was predeceased by his parents: mother, Elizabeth Strout MacQuarrie Nelson; father, Clifford MacQuarrie; and stepfather, Elmer Nelson; and brother-in-law, Ricky Pung. He is also survived by his brother, Carroll MacQuarrie; sister, Myrna Thompson; brothers-in-law, Andy and wife, Aletha, Greg and wife, Billie Jo, and Eddie and partner, Nancy; sisters-in-law, Lorraine and Diane; special nieces, Annette, partner, Steve, Teresa, Michelle, and Mandi; special nephews, Billy, and Leon and partner, Judy; a special aunt, Pauline; cousins, Nicholas, Dicky, and Jeff; and special friend, Valla Hall.
One thing I know for certain, he was the most stubborn, bull-headed man I know, but also one of the kindest. He would do anything he could if you needed help, especially for his family. He will be greatly and sadly missed.
Graveside services were held noon Saturday, Aug. 11, at North Street Cemetery in Cherryfield. There will be no gathering afterward. Arrangements are by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge.
