JOHN F. MASTROVITO

John was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on Feb. 11, 1931, the son of John & Adelaide Mastrovito. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. John loved playing saxophone from the age of 12. He graduated from Berklee School of Music in Boston graduating in 1957, majoring in composition and arranging. He played soprano, alto and tenor sax in many clubs in New York State as well as Maine. He had his own 16-piece big band in New York State before moving to Maine in 1998 where he continued to play in many locations until recently before his death.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Adelaide, and sisters, Josephine Norton, Helen Campbell and Gloria Veach.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Rosemary “Gil” Mastrovito and step-children: Joseph John Albano, Sandra Gunn, and Christian Starpoli, and his sister Virginia Gunn and 35 nieces, nephews and their families.

Burial will be at the Corea Cemetery in Maine on Saturday, July 14 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in his memory. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge, ME.
