GOULDSBORO
Vinson R. Carter, 70, passed away at home on June 6, 2018. He was born in Ellsworth, to Vinson and Yvonne Carter of Hancock. He was the oldest of five children and was predeceased by brothers Dennis and Eldred. Vinnie graduated from Sumner High School in 1966 and enlisted in the Army. After his honorable discharge he worked several jobs but was happiest being his own boss — digging worms, selling Christmas trees and accomplishing construction and landscaping projects for clients on Mount Desert Island. He was proud to describe himself as a handyman, and he was a handy man in every respect, always working on a home repair project, tinkering with his 1966 Mustang or tending his lawn. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be sadly missed by all, including his dog, Spud.
Vinnie is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara, of Gouldsboro; sister Dianne Potter and husband Jerry of Gouldsboro; brother Brad Carter and wife, Debbie, of Hancock; children John Carter of Franklin, Erin Jordon of Ellsworth and Adam Carter and wife, Crystal, of Terryville, Conn.; grandchildren Damian Carter, Jasmine Jordon, Josephine Jordon and Axel Carter.
A celebration of Vinnie’s life will be held on June 30, at his mother’s home on Tidal Falls Road in Hancock at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth.
