Celia (Kay) Somers Vietti

Celia (Kay) Somers Vietti passed away peacefully at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor on April 9, 2018. She was born to Frank G. and Mary E. (Hutman) Somers on April 16, 1945, in Pittsburg, Kan.

Kay graduated from Oswego High School, Oswego, Kan., Class of 1963, then married the love of her life, Michael A. Vietti, on June 15, 1963. She graduated from the University of Maine with a BS in health and family life in 1979 then returned to complete her BS in Nursing from UMaine in 1985, being a member of the first class to graduate from the new RN program. She spent her professional years as a charge nurse in the neurological unit at EMMC then later switched to geriatric nursing, caring for Alzheimer’s patients in local nursing homes.

Besides her parents, Kay was predeceased by her husband, Michael, in 2010, her sister, Nancy Foxx, and her dear friend Barbara Csavinzsky.

Kay is survived by her daughters, Suzette Vietti Cowan and her husband, Chris, of Round Rock, Texas, Thema Vietti and her husband, Jonathan Moreland, of Salem, Mass.; her sons, Justin Vietti of Bucksport, Mario Vietti of Southwest Harbor, Dominic Vietti and his wife, Carmelle, of Memphis, Tenn., and Tony Vietti of Old Town. Her legacy includes her precious grandchildren, Chad Cowan of Concord, N.H., Kevin Cowan and his wife, Seda, of Austin, Texas, Nickolas Cowan of Round Rock, Texas, and Bella Vietti of Memphis, Tenn. She is also survived by a sister, Teresa Somers of Sedonia, Miss., and she is fondly remembered by her dear friend Linda Anderson of Orland.

Special thanks to the nursing staff and doctors at EMMC ICU for the tender kindness and care shown to Kay during her illness.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at St. Joseph Church, 231 Main St., Ellsworth. Internment will be at a later date in Old Town.
