LAMOINE
David Sanderson of Lamoine died unexpectedly on April 3, 2018. He was born to John and Pearl Sanderson June 23, 1941, in St. Louis, Mo. He received a master’s degree in English from Johns Hopkins, and Ph.D. in English Romanticism from UC-Davis. David was an organizational consultant whose career in higher and secondary education also included college teaching, school administration, organizational leadership and staff development in the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. Since 1986, he worked as an independent consultant in the fields of organizational change, strategic planning, conflict and diversity management, and coalition building. His clients included school districts, health care organizations, Native American tribes, colleges, universities and government agencies.
He was blessed with a lifelong relationship with his wife, Diane, that began as high school sweethearts. After living in numerous parts of the country, they settled in Lamoine, where they raised their four children.
David loved reading, writing, poetry, being outdoors, and camping. He enjoyed cooking, building, woodworking and making things he could share with friends and family. He loved Maine, particularly Downeast and Acadia, and will be missed by a wide group of friends in the local community. He was deeply involved in Lamoine Community Arts. In addition to acting in many plays, he served on the LCA board. David served the town of Lamoine on its Planning Board and on the Conservation Commission, where he was particularly passionate about preserving the natural beauty of the area.
He donated time and energy to many organizations and individuals, including the Abbe Museum, Frenchman Bay Conservancy and WHCA (Washington Hancock Community Agency). David earned a Ph.D. In English literature early in his career and, later, turned his talents and affection for the humanities to serving for many years on the editorial board of the Beloit Poetry Journal.
David was a loving and dedicated husband, father and friend. He touched the hearts and lives of many, working hard to make the world a better place, and to create harmony, peace and laughter. He will be fondly remembered by his beloved wife Diane, four children and eight grandchildren. There was a gathering of friends at the Lamoine Grange April 8, 2018.
