SOUTHWEST HARBOR
Hilda Louise Leighton, 92, died March 30, 2018, in Bar Harbor. She was born Nov. 26, 1925, on Campobello Island, the daughter of Peter Scott and Julia (Searles) Malloch.
Hilda grew up on Campobello Island. When she and Walter married in 1944, they made their home in Lubec. On Sept. 3, 1963, they moved to Southwest Harbor with their three children. In 1972, Hilda and Walter bought The Harbor Light Inn, in Southwest Harbor, which they operated for 15 years.
Hilda attended the Southwest Harbor Congregational Church and the Corner Stone Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by two sons; Peter Leighton and wife, Christine, of Kildeer, Ill., and Craig Leighton and wife, Lynn, of Ellsworth, one daughter, Lori Black and husband, Stanley, of West Tremont. Five grandchildren; Scott and Lauren Leighton, Christopher Leighton, Erin LaFreniere and husband, Peter, and Chelsea Black.
Friends are invited to call 10-11 a.m., Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 25, 2018, at Olsen Cemetery, Lubec.
