HANCOCK – Timothy J. Manning, 52, of Hancock, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Feb. 28, 2017. Tim was born on July 26, 1964, in Brockton, Mass., and moved to Sullivan in his early years. He graduated from Sumner Memorial High School, where he was an all-star baseball and soccer player. Upon graduation, he attended Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Bangor. Tim began his fishing career at the young age of 20, working as a sternman, before purchasing his own vessel and becoming known as “Captain Tim,” a name that is recognized throughout the entire fishing community. He dragged mussels up and down the coast for the last 32 years.
Tim was even more well known for his incredible knowledge of hunting, fishing and tracking. Every season, his driveway would be full of hunters from dawn until dusk and the garage full of bucks. Nights spent cutting and packaging up meat and telling stories was a staple in the Manning household. Any question that was asked Tim knew the answer and any story that was told, Tim was usually involved.
Tim is survived by his mother, Jeanne and stepfather Roy Warren; son Michael and his wife, Jackie, and their daughter Wendy; daughter Natasha; stepdaughter Lexi Handy; four brothers, Sean and his two sons Mickey and Dustin; Joey and his wife, Kelly, and their son Chris; Jimmy and his wife, Sheila, and Jimmy’s son Matthew; Roy and his wife, Billy-Jo, and their children Cameron, Delanie, Damon and Madlyn; several aunts, uncles and cousins; his longtime girlfriend Shelly Scott and her son Dylan Tracey.
Tim was predeceased by his father, Timothy.
He will never be forgotten.
Our memories of the ocean will linger on, long after our footprints in the sand are gone.
