HANCOCK and FRANCISCO MAY, CANCUN, MEXICO — William H. Ducharme, 65, passed peacefully in his sleep at our new home in Mexico on Feb. 28, 2016. He was born in South Portland on Sept. 16, 1950, to Romeo and Virginia (Messer) Ducharme.
Bill graduated from Stearns High School in Millinocket and from Northern Maine Technical College with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked all his life as a broadcast engineer including television, radio and mobile communications. He was also the proprietor of the Olde Stereo Shoppe in Ellsworth, and a consulting broadcast engineer. Bill was an avid ham radio operator (WB2GKG), an expert black powder shooter, and was especially talented at designing vacuum tube amplifiers for music systems.
Bill is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Johnson) Ducharme; father Romeo Ducharme of Portland; daughter Billie-Joe Hagan and her husband, Dennis, and their three fabulous children, Nicholas, Zachary and Brittainy, all of Houlton; former wife and good friend Eleanor King of Rockland; and brothers David Ducharme and Bruce Campbell.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Faith Community Fellowship, Bar Harbor Road (Route 3), Trenton.
