FRANKLIN — Rosabel Wells Clark passed away March 30, 2016, in Ellsworth. She was born March 4, 1928, in Shelton, Conn., the daughter of William Bennett and Lottie May Wells.
She attended schools in Stratford, Conn., the Danbury Teachers College, and she also received a master’s degree from the Divinity School of Drew University. She made a trip to Communist Russia, taking Bibles to the people there, a dangerous mission in 1970. Wanting to be a missionary, she became an English correspondent at the Casa Materna Orphanage in Naples, Italy. She later returned to the United States to care for an aunt who had adopted her and her siblings when she was orphaned at the age of 6. At that time, Rosabel returned to teaching in the Stratford school system. She married Hoyt Clark in 1973, and soon moved with him to his ancestral home in Franklin. Rosabel loved people, and the Lord, Jesus Christ, to whom she devoted her life. She conducted home Bible studies, and never ceased teaching and encouraging others in their love for Jesus.
She is survived by her husband, Hoyt; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her three brothers and a sister.
If she had been able to know the care, the compassion, and the overflowing love of the doctors, nurses and other caretakers for her at the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, she would have been overwhelmed and overjoyed.
A memorial service celebrating her love for Jesus will be held at 1 p.m., April 10, 2016, at the United Baptist Church, 28 Hancock St., Ellsworth. No flowers, please.
Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth.
