Lee Shafer

HARRINGTON – Lee Shafer, 39, died unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Lee was born Feb. 11, 1977, in Adrian, Mich. He was the son of Walter Shafer of Harrington and Colette Gebarowski of Milbridge. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two daughters, Isla Shafer and Arian Shafer of Harrington; sister Ellie Gebarowski-Shafer of Middlebury, Vt.; half-brother Bill Shafer of Anna Maria Island, Fla.; four aunts, Martina Michling (Doug) of Arizona; Jolene Taft (Ed) of Ohio; Debbie Suganuma (Mike) of Florida; Luannne Collins (Chris) of Florida; two nephews, Ike and Eli of Vermont.

He attended Harrington Elementary School and graduated from Narraguagus High School, Class of 1994. As a talented carpenter, he was employed by Hinckley Yachts of Trenton, where he installed teak decks. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as cutting firewood, camping, open fire cooking, canoeing, mountain biking, swimming and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by Hailey Merritt on Dec. 16, 2016, who was his girlfriend and the mother of his children.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Cherryfield Pentecostal Church on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at 2 p.m.
