Aubrey H. Carter Jr.

– Aubrey H. Carter Jr. died Jan. 4, 2017, two days before his 92nd birthday, in Ellsworth. He was born on Jan. 6, 1925, the first of eight children, to Aubrey H. Carter Sr. and Goldie (Martin) Carter.

Aubrey was a carpenter for all of his life. He helped build Dow Air Force Base, Sumner High School, Haystack School, Hancock Grammar School and Jasper’s Restaurant, to name a few.

Aubrey proudly served his country in WWII in the 5th Infantry Division Co. D 11th Regt. of the 3rd Army. He was in Rhinelands, Luxembourg, Metz and Bastogne. He was awarded two bronze stars and many other medals.

He is survived by his nephew Jay Carter and his wife, Mary, of Orland; sisters Ruth Sprague of Ellsworth, Ida Woodworth of Hancock, Joyce Vickery and husband, Robert, of Hallowell; brother Alfred Carter and wife, Hedi, of Hancock, Donald Carter and wife, Nita, of Hancock; grandsons Steven Carter, Daniel Carter; great-grandchildren Alexis, Cameron, and L. Carter; many other family members and special friends Kevin and Barbara Conty.

He was predeceased by his wife, Alice; sons Bruce and Dana; brother Vincent Carter; sister June Pierson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Honor Flight Maine, P.O. Box 1770, Portland, ME 04104-1770.

Aubrey’s memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home in Ellsworth with Pastor Bob Maddocks officiating. Friends and family are welcomed for visiting hours after the service and concluding at 1 p.m. Memories may be shared at www.bragdonkelley.com.
