PRESQUE ISLE/SURRY – Jean M. Kane, 91, died Nov. 27, 2016, in Presque Isle. She was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Presque Isle the daughter of Elmer E. and Muriel (Brown) Howlett.
Jean lived in Surry with her husband, Roger E. Kane, for many years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting, cooking and reading. Jean was a past member of the Surry United Methodist Church, serving in the Sunshine Sisters and as treasurer for many years.
Jean is survived by her step-sons; Roger R. Kane and wife, Joyce, of Portland, Larish Kane and wife, Susan, of New Hampshire; step-daughters; Barbara Kurr and partner, Wilmot Benjamin, of Easton and Nancy Charette and husband, Daniel, of Mapleton; brothers; Winston Howlett of Easton and Ronald Howlett and wife, Betty, of New York; and sister Lorraine Daggett of Guilford. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger; her son Alan; her brothers Harold and Bernard; and sister Phyllis Sullivan.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Interment will be at North Bend Cemetery, Surry.
