ELLSWORTH – Isabella L. Higgins, 89, of Ellsworth, died unexpectedly on Nov. 1, 2016, at her home. She was born on April 9, 1927, in Scotland, a daughter of Robert and Christina (Hastie) Cowie.
She grew up in Scotland where she met her first husband, a U.S. service member, during WWII. She and George H. Pinkham were married in Ellsworth in 1947. He died in 1980. She later married Wesley Higgins, who has since died. She worked for many years in the Hot Lunch Program with the Ellsworth School System.
Isabella was very active in both the Emmanuel and United Baptist Church. She enjoyed listening to and playing music, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include daughter Christina G. (Joel) Holcomb of Brewer; granddaughters Jennifer, Catherine, and Nicole; great-grandchildren Graydon, Olivia, David, and Katelynn; step-daughter Sandra Chalmers (Frank); and numerous other family members in the U.S. and Scotland. She was predeceased by her parents, first and second husband, and four brothers.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at the United Baptist Church in Ellsworth.
