Robert “Bobby” E. Austin, who was often known as Bampie, peacefully passed away on July 16 at his favorite place, “upta camp.”
Bobby retired from the Bucksport mill after 42 years. He could build or fix anything, either at the mill or for family and friends. From houses to hotrods and building furniture using wood from his beloved tree farm, his natural talent and knowledge was endless. If he couldn’t fix it, it certainly must have been broken. Bob loved to deer hunt, harvesting unmentionable amounts of deer at his favorite hunting spots.
Most of all he loved being with his family and “upta camp” on Toddy Pond, where you were greeted with humor, endless Oreos and freeze pops. He adored his grandkiddos and great-grandson, who encouraged his silliness and antics. He lived his life to have fun, making everybody laugh and keeping them on their toes with his pranks. He was always the life of the party and will surely be missed by all who knew him.
Robert is survived by his oldest son Ryan Austin and his significant other Charlene; his youngest son Kurt Austin, his wife, Jen, and their three children, Kennedy, Kole and Kayleigh; and her fiancé Brandon and their son Jaxson. He is survived by his brother John and sisters Judy and Janet. He was predeceased by his brother Jerry, his father, William, and mother, Jeanne.
Per Robert’s request there will be no funeral services. Yet a celebration of life “upta camp” will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services Bucksport. (mitchelltweedie-young.com)
