Ellsworth
Janice D. White, 83, died June 17, 2022, at a health-care facility in Ellsworth. She was born on July 10, 1938, in New Sharon, the daughter of Laurence E. and Loretta (Richards) Day.
Janice graduated from New Sharon High School in 1956, and then from Husson College in 1960, with a BS in business education. Janice started teaching at Bar Harbor High School in 1961 and moved to the Mount Desert Island High School when the consolidation occurred. She met her husband, Julian White, while attending Husson College, and they married on July 1, 1961, in New Sharon.
Janice and Julian settled in Ellsworth in 1965, where they lived in the same house on Main Street for 57 years. Janice retired in June of 1996 after 35 years of teaching. Janice enjoyed knitting, crafting, golfing and especially gardening around their home. She and Julian enjoyed traveling after their retirements, especially the Shrine trips. She was a member of the Order of the Irene Chapter, Ellsworth.
Janice was predeceased by her husband, Julian, who passed earlier this year. She is survived by a sister, Lois Handfield, and husband, John, of Connecticut and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Janice and Julian will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth, followed by a celebration of life at the Anah Shriners Temple, 1404 Broadway Ave., Bangor, at 2 p.m.
