
Ellsworth
Julian S. White Jr., 83, died Feb. 10, 2022, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born June 24, 1938, in Medford, Mass., the son of Julian S. and Bernice A. (Foster) White.
Julian was a graduate of Husson College with a BS in accounting, Williams College of Banking, Sonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University and Cannon Financial Institute of Trust Banking at Notre Dame. He worked for The First National Bank (The First) for 31 years, retiring in 1997; Julian was president of the Bangor Chapter of the American Institute of Banking from 1983-84; in 1997 he was awarded by the Maine Bankers Association as the Volunteer Bank of the Year.
He was very involved in the community, serving on the Ellsworth Lions Club, and was a past president as well as receiving the Best District President Award for 1977-78. Julian was a member and past president of the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce, receiving the Businessperson of the Year Award in 1990, and a member of the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital board of directors, serving as chairman of the board from 1993-1995 and a member of the finance committee. He was also elected as an honorary member for life by the board of trustees.
Julian entered the Mount Desert Masonic Lodge No. 140 A.F. & A.M on March 23, 1964. He was a member and past master. He was a member and past chairman of the board of trustees of the Anah Shrine, joining on June 15, 1965, and an active and past member in the Minibike Unit from 1972-1983, serving as unit captain from 1979-1983. Julian was also a past member of Greeter Unit and Aides Unit; he served for 15 years as the Divan Representative for Anah Convertible Unit; he served as a member of the Board of Governors from January 2000-2009 for the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Boston and then became an emeritus member of the board.
Julian is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Janice, A. (Day) White, of Ellsworth; a sister, Pam White Pooley, of Levant; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn.
