Gerald (Jerry) Swett

Gerald (Jerry) Swett, 77, of Ellsworth passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness on Jan. 24, 2022, at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital. Jerry was born Oct. 17, 1944, in Portland, Maine, to Norman and Elsie Swett.

Jerry was a graduate of the Class of 1963 of Ellsworth High School and attended two years at Husson College in the accounting program. Jerry married his high school sweetheart Brenda Sargent on Dec. 12, 1964. He retired from International Paper Mill in Bucksport after 22 years of service. Jerry was not able to stay retired long and worked for EBS in Town Hill for 11 years. Throughout the years, Jerry and Brenda loved to travel adventuring several places including Hawaii twice, Alaska, all 48 continental U.S. states and cruises to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St. Marten, Barbados, Dominica, Cozumel and the Western Caribbean.

Jerry was a member of the Jaycees Club of Ellsworth, serving as president for one year. He was a Mason with the Lygonia Lodge since 1973 and a past member of the Flag Unit of the Anah Shriners since 2007. Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman, traveling to Canada for his lifelong dream of participating in a caribou hunt and bringing home a big trophy. He also spent several years participating in family moose hunts with his sons Jeff and Mark, grandson Scott, nephew Keith and son-in-law Jimmy. Jerry’s favorite place in the world was his childhood and family camp on Flanders Pond, where he created a lifetime of happy memories with his friends and family.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 57, years Brenda; his oldest son Jeff and wife, Shelley; daughter Lisa and husband, Jimmy; youngest son Mark; a very special nephew who he cared for like a son, Keith, and his wife, Andrea; oldest grandson Scott Gerald and fiancée Lisa; granddaughter Stephanie and husband, Coleman, granddaughter Jalisa; grandson Michael Gerald and wife, Brianna, grandson Dakota and granddaughter Brena; great-grandchildren Nahla, Haven, Brantley and Willow; sister Jeanette; and special cousins Pam and Diane and several other special nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Elsie; brother Gordon; sister Corrine; sister-in-law Cathy; brother-in-law George, brother-in-law Dwight, brother-in-law Ed; nieces Karen, Joanne and Wanda; and special friends Wayne Kitchen and Bill Spreng.

A celebration of life will be held for Jerry in the summer at the family camp on Flanders Pond. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jerry’s name to: Anah Shrine, 1404 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401.
