
Hancock
Edith Yvonne Lounder passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side, Sept. 26, 2021. She was born August 30, 1939. Edith grew up on Hancock Point and never left the home she grew up in, living for 82 years in the same house. She graduated from Sumner High School, Class of 1958.
Edith began her career at Key Bank in Ellsworth and worked there as a teller for many years. She was an active member of the Hancock Congregational Church as the deacon, the trustee and a youth group leader for several years. Edith was fond of the friendships she made through her church family. She spent time volunteering with the Hancock Woman’s Club, the Hancock Historical Society and the Hancock Police Department. Edith was a member of the Irene Chapter of Eastern Star and was recognized by Spirit of America. One of Edith’s proudest honors was to be named Hancock’s Citizen of the Year in 2017. While Edith was an active member of the Hancock community, she also worked most of her life as a caretaker of Hancock Point.
Edith was predeceased by her parents, Lessie and Harry Lounder, Sr.; brothers, Arthur “Tookie” Page, Harry Lounder, Andrew “Bing” Lounder; nephew, Nick Lounder; nieces, Betty Sprague and Lisa Jean Lounder; niece, Sheila Lounder. Edith is survived by her siblings, Ernest Page, Helen Norwood, Gertrude Haskins, Nancy Wright and Pamela Crowley; sisters-in-law, Amelia Page and Annabelle Lounder; nephew, Andrew Lounder, Jr. and family; nieces Sally Stanley and Diane Simmons and their families; great nephews, Ryan and Brandon Sprague and their families. Edith will also be missed by many other nieces, nephews and several close friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Edith’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at the Hancock Congregational Church.
