
Gouldsboro
1927-2021-Dorothy Jean Buckley peacefully passed away on July 20, 2021, after a long illness. Jean, as she was best known, was born July 24, 1927, to Edward and Laura Dilmore in Rochester, N.Y. She lived her early years in Seneca Falls, N.Y. Jean graduated from Elizabeth Cady Stanton Elementary School in Seneca Falls, then continued on to graduate high school at Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls. She went on to follow her passion in elementary education after graduating from Potsdam State Teachers College (now SUNY Potsdam). She worked as a teacher in New York state, a substitute teacher at Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School in New York and teacher’s aide at Gouldsboro Grammar School in Maine for many years.
She married the love of her life, Walter Buckley of Gouldsboro, on Aug. 7, 1954. They lived in New Russia, N.Y., until 1983 when they moved to Gouldsboro. She was active in Adirondack Council and Katahdin Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, and the Order of the Eastern Star chapters in Elizabethtown, N.Y., and Winter Harbor.
Jean was predeceased by her parents; husband; and brothers, Hermon and John Dilmore. She is survived by her sons and their wives, Eric and Stephanie Buckley, Karl and Deborah Buckley and Marcus and Norma Buckley; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, Barbara Focht and Martha Tillinger, and nephew, Roger Dilmore; and many grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as great-grandnieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Beatrice Buckley, with whom she was very close.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth. Family and friends are invited to visit from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Jean’s memory to: Katahdin Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, 90 Kelley Road, Orono, ME 04473
