Winter Harbor
Doris M. Combs, 83, died at Ross Manor in Bangor on June 7, 2021. She was born in Bidwell, Ohio, on March 5, 1938, the daughter of Wayne A. Bush and Mildred M. Westfall Bush.
Doris graduated from Bidwell Porter High School in 1956 and she graduated from Kent State University with a BA (Fine Arts) in 1960. She married Roy E. Combs of Akron, Ohio, in 1961. The couple divorced in 1973.
Doris had a long career as a social worker in Summit County, Ohio. After retirement she moved to the Schoodic Peninsula in Maine, where she was active in many community organizations. She volunteered and served as president of the Dorcas Library in Prospect Harbor.
Doris was a founding member of Schoodic Arts for All located in Winter Harbor. In 2011, she donated her art studio in Prospect Harbor to the organization. It has become known as The Combs Studio.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Rosemary Neal and Ruby Lee Hill and son Matthew J. Combs. She is survived by brother Allen Bush (Diane) of Columbus, Ohio, and sister Suzanne Bush (Bruce Malkin) of Sanibel, Fla., and by many nieces and nephews.
