Danny Arthur Mitchell Sr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior and his wife on Saturday morning, March 13, at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth. Danny was born in Ellsworth on Jan. 26, 1947, the son of Arthur L. Mitchell and Myrtle Jordan Mitchell.

Danny met and married the love of his life, Charlotte Stewart, of Winter Harbor. Danny and Charlotte settled down and built their life and raised two children, Terri and Danny Jr., in Gouldsboro. Danny was a very busy man, owning and operating several businesses over the years to include Downeast Disposal and landfill in Steuben; he bought the old school building in South Gouldsboro and transformed it into an apartment building, and he operated Mooselook Guide Service. Danny was also a bus driver for Union 96 and RSU 24, transporting children for about 35 years.

He was a very dedicated husband and father whose goal was to give his family the best life that he could. Danny will be missed by his dog “Boomer Mitchell,” his son Danny Jr. and daughter Terri and their families; a special friend for over 60 years, Elmer Reed, and a special brother, Larry Mitchell, who had been “the best brother I could ask for,” who also transported him to appointments and treatments these past few years. He had many friends like Bud Sanner, Charlie and Frankie Johnson and cousin Arthur Harrington Jr.

Danny was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte Mitchell, parents, Arthur and Myrtle Mitchell, brother Gary Mitchell and in-laws Everett and Eleanor Stewart.

Danny is survived by his brother, Larry Mitchell, of Hancock; his son, Danny Mitchell Jr., and his wife, Rosalie, of Gouldsboro; his daughter, Terri Colson, and her husband, Kenneth, of Gouldsboro. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Brianna Mitchell of Gouldsboro, Corey Beal and Magen of Gouldsboro, Caitlin Colson of Hancock, Michael Smith and Paige of Cherryfield and Adam Colson and Tomi of Corea. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Autumn Beal, Briar and Bowen Smith and Alexandria Buckowski, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Danny wanted to thank his special friends who were there for him and helped him for the past several years. He will be deeply missed.

A graveside service will be determined at a later date.
