Bangor and Franklin
Kennard Allen Wilbur left us on Feb. 15, 2021, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Kenny was born 1935 in Ellsworth to Roland E. and Beatrice Giles Wilbur. He graduated from Ellsworth High School and Husson College. In 1956, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent two years in Korea. He moved to Cambridge, Mass. He worked in banking in Boston and for a time in Miami. Prior to his retirement in 1998 he was employed at Harvard University in Cambridge. He returned to Maine for a time to be with family.
Upon retiring Kenny found that he no longer wanted to spend winter in New England. He loved to travel but did not like to fly, so he traveled by train to do research on his next home. After traveling to Virginia, Nevada and Texas he found San Antonio, Texas, to his liking and stayed there for nine years. Upon returning to Maine, he lived in Bangor and Franklin.
Kenny was a friend to everyone he met and loved to make people laugh. He loved movies, classic rock and the theatre. He loved going out to eat and enjoyed food immensely. Though not able to have many pets after the beloved Rex from childhood he loved animals, and made of every one he met. He loved to walk and that was his favorite mode of travel. He took long walks in Cambridge to have coffee with friends and in San Antonio to sit alongside the Riverwalk. He enjoyed spending time at Abrams Pond, Eastbrook at his niece’s camp and holidays with his family.
He was deeply loved by friends and family and by those who called him “Uncle Kenny.” He will be greatly missed by them all.
Kenny was predeceased by his parents. He leaves behind a brother, Roland (Ropie) Wilbur Sr., and his wife, Carolyn, their children Susan Berry, husband, Robert, their son Jason, his daughter Jasmine, Roland (Rollie) Wilbur Jr., wife, Becky Maddocks-Wilbur, their children Payden, his wife, Chelsea, Cheyenne Smith, her husband, Mark, their children Annabelle, Kowen and Isaac, Justice, his wife, Lara, Kiana and Seneca.
