Barbara J. Harriman, 91, died Feb. 16, 2021, at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born in West Gouldsboro March 4, 1929, the daughter of Shirley and Sybil (Ashe) Jones.

Barbara attended West Gouldsboro Grammar School, Sullivan High School and graduated from Framingham Academy in Framingham, Mass., Class of 1948. She married Oct. 2, 1948, to George H. Harriman Jr. and celebrated 43 years of marriage until his passing in 1991.

Barbara went to work for New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. in 1959, working in the Ellsworth and Bangor offices, and retired from AT&T in 1987. Following her retirement, Barbara studied real estate and obtained her broker’s license, and worked for J.F. Singleton Co. Inc. She left the real estate business to work for the Union Trust Co. in Ellsworth at the Main Street office, retiring in 1999.

She was an active member of her community. She was a communicant at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church; a longtime member of the St. Joseph’s Women’s Council; a lifetime member of the AT&T Pioneers Charitable Foundation and a supporter of several other charitable foundations and local historical societies.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Pamela M. Harriman of Gouldsboro; son, James T. Harriman, and wife, Nancy, of Huntsville, Ala. granddaughter, Rebecca, and husband, Chris Moorer; great-grandsons, Max and Ben Moorer, and grandson, Daniel Harriman, all of Huntsville, Ala.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the family is planning a celebration of life for Barbara later this summer at a time to be announced in August. Burial will be in the family plot at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ellsworth. Contributions in Barbara’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
