Arden “Tuffy” Carlisle, 84, died Jan. 6, 2021, in Bangor. He was born March 4, 1936, in Ellsworth Falls, the son of Harold E. and Theresa (Cook) Carlisle.

Arden graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1954. In 1956, he started working for the Maine Department of Transportation. He worked all over the state doing test borings for highways and bridges for the first 22 years, finishing the next 17 years with highway maintenance on Mount Desert Island and in the Ellsworth area, making a total of 39 years.

He is survived by his son, Gary M. Alley, and wife, Pamela, of Houston, Texas; daughters, Sheryl Anne Yacalis of Binghamton, N.Y., and Marcia Marie Westrack and husband, Kevin, of Calais; three grandsons, four granddaughters and six great-grandchildren; and brother Richard Carlisle of Ellsworth; He was predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years, Eleanor (Leavitt) Carlisle, and sister, Shirley Nelson.

Private services for the family will be held at Jordan-Fernald, Ellsworth. A spring interment will be held at Juniper Cemetery, Ellsworth
