Kathleen J. Weymouth, 76, passed away on Jan. 6, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Feb. 24, 1944, in New York City, N.Y.
Kathy was an avid lover of books, language and learning. She worked in the Ellsworth school system for over 20 years teaching special education and reading recovery. As a teacher she would follow her students throughout their school years and always took note when a former student of hers graduated from high school. Many of her students she never forgot. She formed a special bond and friendship with her fellow teachers and continued a lifelong friendship with them beyond retirement and her move to North Carolina. Both of her children owe their love of reading to her.
Kathy was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellsworth and later Infant of Prague Catholic Church in Jacksonville, N.C. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. After her retirement from the Ellsworth school system, she relocated to North Carolina to be closer to her grandchildren. Her faith was her guiding star, and her grandchildren were the light of her life. Kathy was also proud of her Irish heritage, an accomplished seamstress and a lover of music — especially John Denver and CCR!
Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, Alan Jack Weymouth. She is survived by her children, Kyle Weymouth and his wife, Heidi, of Jacksonville, N.C., her daughter Tara Weymouth and her life partner Scott Colombo of Wilmington, N.C., and grandchildren Jackson, Jesse, Jordan and Josie.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School Library in Kathy’s memory.
