Carolyn L. Sweetser died unexpectedly of COVID-19 on Dec. 29, 2020, at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born in Woburn, Mass., Sept. 27, 1938, to parents Charles Allen and Lily Louise (Paine) Sweetser.

Carolyn graduated from Woburn High School, Class of 1956. She attended Fitchburg State College, Class of 1961, and earned a degree in special education. Her first teaching job was special ed in the town of Amesbury, Mass. After receiving her master’s degree in school administration, she went to work as superintendent of pupil personnel at SAU School Administration Union, Hampton, N.H. Later, along with a partner, Daisy D’Amico, they formed an educational consulting service, which they operated for many years. After retiring from full-time employment, she went to work at the guest’s services department at a local campground in Bar Harbor. The campground was acquired by Kampgrounds of America (KOA), where she has happily worked for many years.

Carolyn was predeceased by her longtime friend and housemate Daisy D’Amico. She is survived by her brother Charles (Bud) Sweetser and his wife, Janet, of Windham, N.H.; three nephews, David, Erik and Kurt Sweetser; two grandnephews, Tyler and Christopher, and four grandnieces, Ciara, Elise, Jessica and Zoey.

According to her wishes, there will be no services and her ashes will be spread around her favorite places in Bar Harbor.
