James W. Shedeck, 74, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 3, 2021. Jim was born in Enid, Okla., on April 16, 1946. Jim is survived by four daughters, Audra Shedeck, Michelle McNabb, Samantha Desjardin and Nicole Shedeck, and son Brian Shedeck as well as two grandchildren, TJ Desjardin II and Brennan Desjardin. Jim also leaves behind one sister, Jeannie Roberts, and a brother, Bill Shedeck. He was predeceased by his parents, Vernon and Alice Shedeck.
After serving his country honorably and with distinction as a member of the U.S. Air Force, “Jimmy” eventually moved his family to and found his roots in the Ellsworth community as an employee of the Ellsworth school system as a custodian for over 20 years. However, his passion was always being a coach and mentor to young aspiring athletes. Throughout his 40-plus years coaching, Jim served as coach for girls’ softball, cross-country, indoor and outdoor track as well as also maintaining the EHS sports fields, running scoreboards and the time clocks. Even after hanging up his coach’s whistle, Jim still attended as many sporting events as he possibly could and was always eager to offer help when needed.
We know in our hearts that Jim will never stop watching over us all and will be a constant presence at those sports events that he cherished. Jim was loved and respected throughout the Ellsworth community and will be sadly missed by so many. We ask that in lieu of flowers and cards that donations be made to the athletic department in Ellsworth in “Coach Jim’s” name.
Due to the current COVID situation, a remembrance memorial service for Jim will be planned for a future date to be determined.
