James Joseph Freedman, 27, died Dec. 31, 2020, in Gouldsboro. He was born in Winchester, Mass., June 16, 1993, the son of James V. and Kimberly J. (Murphy) Freedman.

James graduated from Ellsworth High School in 2011 and served in the Army Reserves for two years. He was close to finishing his lobsterman license to fulfill his dream of becoming a captain of his own fishing boat. He was a lobsterman out of Prospect Harbor. He loved being outdoors and being busy. He loved the ocean, working with his hands and had a passion for hunting. He was always doing something for someone to help in any way possible.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Emily Fowler, and was a proud dad to his daughter, Kayzleigh Freedman of Corea. He is also survived by his mother, Kimberly Murphy, of Bar Harbor; sister and family, Brittany Skyles, Johnny, Tucker and Peyton of San Antonio, Texas; and loving grandmothers Janet Hennigan of Trenton and Dianne Freedman of Woburn, Mass. He was so loved and will be missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and especially his circle of friends he made friends everywhere he went. He was predeceased by his father, James Vincent Freedman.

A scattering of ashes will be held Jan. 9, 2021, at noon, at the Sand Beach, Corea (at the end of Grand Marsh Bay Road).

There is a Go Fund Me on his Facebook page for donations toward his daughter.

Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
