George J. Lapaire

Bangor

On Dec. 28, 2020, George passed peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on Sept. 13, 1926, to Swiss parents. He spent his childhood on a farm in Vineland, N.J. At 17, he volunteered for the Navy, serving four years on the SS Walke DD723. The ship fought at Normandy, in the Philippines and at Okinawa. Returning home, George finished high school then attended Gordon College in Boston, where he met his future wife, Dorothea Randell. During his junior year at Gordon, he was recalled into the Navy for the Korean War, serving one year. He attended and graduated from Wentworth Institute and later from Fitchburg State Teacher’s College. He began his career teaching industrial arts at George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill. He also taught at Conners Emerson School in Bar Harbor. George was a founder of the Peninsula Ambulance Corps in Blue Hill and served as an EMT for 20 years. He also served as an interim pastor in churches throughout Hancock County and adjoining islands. He and Dorothea had three children, Janet (Bilyk), John and Paul, and were blessed with six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Private services will be held at a later date.
