Richard (Dick) K. Harding (Oct. 22, 1931 – Dec. 30, 2020)
Richard Harding passed peacefully on Dec. 30 at a hospice center near his winter home in Florida.
Dick was born in Lamoine to Richard D. and Dorothy (King) Harding.
He joined the Air Force in 1952 and served in the Korean War stateside as a radar technician on jet fighters until 1956. He then continued to serve in the reserves until 1960.
Dick was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, especially with his sons. He was happiest when he was with his family. He very much enjoyed the many vacations to Europe when he and his wife, Joyce, were joined by their children and grandchildren.
He was a co-owner of the Sunoco service station in Ellsworth and then branched off to own and operate the Phillips 66 service station on High Street. He and Joyce purchased the Clam Shell Take-Out in Trenton in 1970, which became Gateway Lobster Pound and eventually Gateway/Lunts Lobster Pound.
Dick was deeply loved by his family, his wife of 64 years Joyce (Ashe), children Timothy, Gregory and wife, Patricia, Kim Collier and husband, Steven, Michelle Beal and husband, Everett, his grandchildren Jason and wife, Kaley Collier, Heather and husband, Ryan Mitch, Evan Beal, Kara Beal, Ashley Harding, Nicholas Harding and great-granddaughter, Madelyn Collier. He is also survived by his two brothers, Charles (Buster) and Bill and wife, Betty, and one sister, Lois Carter, and husband, Bob. He will be deeply missed by his extended family and friends, especially his friends of more than 65 years, Al and Shirley Berardinelli.
The family will hold a memorial service for Dick later in the year. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in Dick’s memory be made to your local hospice organization.
