Afterward, he held various jobs in construction and mining, specializing in explosives handling. His associates affectionately called him “Dynamite Dave.” He was an avid reader, especially of hard science fiction.
Dave was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Diane (Stevens) Pinkard of Oxnard, Calif., his son, Zachary Stevens of Ellsworth, daughter Jasmine Stevens of Surry, niece Eileen Pinkard of Oxnard, Calif., nephew David Clough of Rocky Mount, Tenn., and many cousins.
The family wishes to thank Tracey Jones for taking such good and loving care of Dave during his final days. At Dave’s request, there will be no funeral service. His ashes will be interred in a private ceremony at the Village Cemetery in Surry.
