ELLSWORTH
Edwin Adams Jeffery, 86, died peacefully of congestive heart failure at home with his loving wife of 66 years, Sharon L. (Odom) Jeffery, by his side. Edwin was born on July 11, 1933, in Brockton, Mass., son of Clifton A. Jeffery and Katherine W. (Plummer) Jeffery.
Edwin graduated from MIT with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1955. Following college, he was an officer in the U.S. Army. He had a long and varied career in optical and mechanical engineering and computer technology, which allowed him to travel the world and led to many entertaining stories. After living in Natick, Mass., for 50 years, he moved to Ellsworth to live closer to his beloved summer home. He loved family, island living, road trips, live music and working out at the Ellsworth YMCA. He could fix anything and loved to tinker, especially with internal combustion engines.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children, Thomas P. Jeffery and his wife, Karin (Gruber) Jeffery, of Mountain View, Calif., Lynn A. Jeffery and her husband, Bertis Syms, of Natick, Mass., and Peter N. Jeffery and his wife, Margaret (Timothy) Jeffery, of Bar Harbor; his grandchildren, Aidan J. Syms, Gabriel W. Syms, Clifton T. Jeffery, Emerson O. Jeffery and Winslow A. Jeffery; and his sister, Ruth J. Hennessy, and her husband, Francis Hennessy; sister-in-law, Birgitta Odom; and many nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made in Edwin’s name to the Ellsworth YMCA, 238 State St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
