Loretta B. Leighton, 84, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Feb. 1, 2020, at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital. Loretta was born in Los Angeles, Calif., to Ansil Wilson and Patricia Hall on April 23, 1935.
Loretta moved from California to Corea in 1959. She worked for over 20 years at Stinson’s Canning Co. in Prospect Harbor. Loretta was creative and crafty, enjoying things such as knitting, sewing, cooking, baking and painting. She and her husband also took joy in activities like camping and snowmobiling. Loretta loved to play bingo and was an avid reader. She and her husband, Bob, resided for many years in Winter Harbor, heading to New Smyrna Beach during the winter months. They’ve made Florida their permanent home for the last 12 years.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert Leighton, daughter Donna and her husband, Robert Scott, of Sullivan, granddaughters Bev and her husband, Danny Sargent, of Ellsworth, Heather and her husband, Colie Haskell, of Ellsworth, and Katrina and her husband, Ryan Willette, of Surry and great-grandchildren Elise Sargent, Evan Haskell and Maya and Hudson Willette. She is also survived by her stepchildren Scott and wife, Ruth Leighton, of Wiscasset, Luanne and husband, Roger Chipman, of Birch Harbor, Lori and husband, Donald Ferguson, of Waldoboro, Leta Leighton and partner Christine Longtin of Brewer, Michael Leighton and partner Marc Fernandes of Warwick, R.I., Richard and wife, Michelle Leighton, of Winter Harbor, 11 step-grandchildren, and several step great-grandchildren. Loretta was predeceased by her parents and son Vernon Young.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, at Jordan Fernald Funeral Home in Ellsworth from 2-4 p.m.
