GOULDSBORO

Joseph Everett Dennison of Gouldsboro, born in Bar Harbor, died unexpectedly Friday, March 22, 2019.

Son of Mary and Maurice Dennison, he leaves behind his sisters Allura Martin of Hancock and Jessica Fishwick of Canada, brothers Pat, Andy, Shawn and Darryl, his partner in life Lisa Ashmore, “his boys” Jordan, Hunter and Elijah, and his ever-loving companion, Molly the Border Collie.

Joey, aka Joey Why, overcame many obstacles in his life to become a fisherman and first-class sternman. Salt water ran in his veins, as he was at home and felt the most peace on or near the ocean. He was loyal, intelligent, funny, kind and never declined when someone asked for his help. He was creative and resourceful, able to build anything he could think of. Baking, bird watching, library trips, IQ puzzles, flea markets and shoreline treasure hunts were his favorite things to do when he wasn’t working.

He loved to sing loud and dance, even though he could do neither. Shopping took forever because of his fascination with, well, everything.

Joseph Everett had too many qualities to list. He was an amazing man who suffered from a relentless addiction, alcohol. A quote he had taped in a place he could see daily read “Failure is not defeat until you stop trying.” He NEVER stopped trying.

A potluck memorial will be held at the David A. Hooper Lodge, 132 Burt Gray Road, Sullivan, on Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m.

In addition, a service at the Franklin United Methodist Church, 24 Main St., Franklin will be held on May 5 at 1 p.m., with reception following.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Joey’s name to Next Step’s Katie’s Quest Fund.
