BUCKSPORT

Our precious mother Ellen Marjorie (Gonzales) Archer transitioned from her earthly life to her everlasting life with Jesus on Feb. 1, 2019, with her loving and devoted son Gregory by her side to experience her final moments. Ellen was born in Presque Isle on March 20, 1935, and lived a very full, productive and meaningful life.

Ellen graduated from MDI High School, Class of 1953. She was the oldest of five sisters and grew up in Somesville near Long Pond. Swimming was our mom’s favorite pastime, which she enjoyed over her lifetime.

Ellen put herself through nursing school to earn her LPN license in the late 1970s and worked for many years at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, where she made many friends and was respected for her dedication and hard work. She raised her younger children in Bucksport, where she resided from 1969 to 2017.

Ellen leaves behind three sons, Russell of Ellsworth, Wesley and wife, Tammy, of Bucksport, and Gregory and wife, Michelle, of Belfast and a daughter, Victoria (Archer) Carter, and husband, Joseph, of Bucksport, sisters Sharon Awalt and husband, Kenneth, of Ellsworth and Doreen McPeek and husband, David, of Mariaville and six grandchildren: Wesley Michael Archer, Kimberly Archer, Rhiannon Archer, Ethan Archer, Joshua Miller and Krista Miller, four great-grandchildren, several nephews and a niece.

Ellen was predeceased by her mother, Ethel Jordan Gonzales, and her father, Arthur Gonzales, in 1987 and 1979, respectively. She was also predeceased by her daughter Wendy, sons Terrence and Michael, sisters Donna Lyda and Linda Barnes and a nephew.

Ellen will be remembered for her caring, nurturing nature and love of family. After her mother passed away, she carried on her mother’s tradition of gathering the entire extended family at her home every Christmas Eve from 1988 to 2015 at her Bucksport home. Ellen was a lover of music and had entire room in her home for her Elvis collection. Ellen attended the Congregational Church in Bucksport and participated in the choir while she was attending there. Our Mom has a beautiful singing voice and now will be able to share her beautiful singing voice in Heaven with her dearly departed family members and relatives.

All are welcome to join the family from 5-7 p.m. this Thursday, Feb. 7, in remembering Ellen, our precious, beautiful Mom as she rests in peace hearing all that is said. A funeral service will be held Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. Her burial will be completed at a later date in the spring when the weather is warmer. www.mitchelltweedie-young.com.

The family wishes to extend thanks to Beacon Hospice for their support and care of our beloved mother.
