ELLSWORTH
Katherine E. Moore Damp, 69, passed away peacefully to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth with her family by her side on Jan. 16, 2019. She was born on March 25, 1949, at Charles Hurley Hospital in Ellsworth, to Everett W. Moore and Eleanor M. (Niemiec) Moore.
Katherine was the much loved wife to Michael V. Damp of 49 years. Sister to Martin E. Moore and wife, Anne Moore, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and sister Virginia Moore. Children Marcy E. (Damp) Duhaime and husband, Benjamin J. N. Duhaime, of Enfield/Ellsworth and Katie L. Damp of Blue Hill; her beloved “Grands” Kayla, Morgan, Gavin, and Riley, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and lifelong friends.
Katherine grew up in Meriden, Conn., from 1950-1959. Her family then moved to Mariaville, where she attended a one-room classroom at the Lincoln School House in Mariaville where her grandmother and grandfather had also attended. Katherine met the love of her life, Michael Damp, and married on Oct. 13, 1969. When her husband was discharged from the Navy she lived in Scofield, Wis., until he finished trade school. They then lived out the remainder of her life in Ellsworth.
Katherine worked at the Ellsworth Registry of Deeds as deputy registrar of deeds and retired after 25 years of service. Prior to this she worked for Connecticut General Health Insurance and Penobscot Savings Bank. Katherine had opened the first nonprofit nursery school, called Small World Nursery, with her friend Phyllis Harmon. She was part of the EHS Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Downeast Senior College Board of Directors and Curriculum Committee.
Kathy was loved by many and friends to all who came across her path. She had an uncanny ability to allow you to confide in her without judgment. She could light up a room with a simple smile and hello. Thank you to everybody for the valued friendships and much needed support system; she loved you all very much.
Please join us in celebrating Katherine Damp’s life on Sunday, Jan. 27, from 1-4 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in the recreation hall. Gifts in memory may be sent to the ALS Association at 1275 K. Street, NW Suite 250, Washington, DC 20005 USA.
