Obit- David Curtis_flagHANCOCK – David C. Curtis, 79, died May 22, 2016, after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 8, 1937, in Boston, Mass., as the only son of Albert and Nancy (Covelle) Curtis, and nephew of Cmdr. Katherine Curtis Siggins, Dave grew up in Medford and Winchester, Mass., graduating from Winchester High School in 1955.

After high school, Dave graduated from East Coast Aero Tech and signed on for an eight-year term in the Army Reserves.

In 1960, Dave married Anne Louise Mills, and they shared more than 55 years of marriage, raising two children in Burlington and North Andover, Mass.

Early in his life, Dave worked a variety of jobs, ranging from aircraft mechanic at Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. in Connecticut, to door-to-door salesman with Fuller Brush Co. in Massachusetts, before finally settling into his career with New England Telephone. After retiring in 1989, Dave and Anne moved to Hancock.

During retirement Dave enjoyed many hobbies, from camping and following local stock car racing to building model airplanes and model trains to learning about computers. Always an avid tinkerer, Dave continued his love of building and figuring out how things worked.

Dave was known as “Too Tall” due to his 5-foot-“20”-inch height. He will be remembered for his friendly personality and ready wit. At Jordan’s Snack Bar in Ellsworth, Dave was known by name and was not just a number.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Anne Curtis: his son, Lawrence Curtis and his wife, Deborah, of Buxton; his daughter Holly Curtis Allen and her husband Michael Allen, of Hancock; grandson Andrew Allen, and his wife Brandi, and grandsons Jared and Caleb Curtis; and great-grandson Wyatt Allen.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care during Dave’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dave’s memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, P.O. Box 1134, Portland, ME 04106-1134.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth Condolences may be made at www.jordanfernald.com.
