Robert Allen Benedict

STEUBEN

Robert Allen Benedict, 86, of Steuben, died peacefully at home Aug. 10, with his family surrounding him. He was born and raised in Beverly, Mass., with two brothers and a sister, son of Harold and Christine Benedict.

As a teenager, Bob was a private first class in the Massachusetts National Guard, during which he played drums in the 567th USAF band. After high school, during the Korean War, Bob joined the Navy. He served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge (CV-45), where he worked as a ship’s carpenter. After this he and his wife moved to her hometown of Steuben, where he had a long career as a home builder and master cabinet maker in the Downeast area.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Arlene Fickett Benedict, as well as his three children, Sheron B. Egolf, Jeffery A. Benedict (Jeanne) and Jennifer B. Rowland (Richard). Additionally, he has two grandsons, Jeffrey and Matthew, and granddaughter Julie.

A celebration of life will be held in Milbridge at the Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 3 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
