Patricia R. Kornreich, 80, passed away at home on June 20, 2018, with her loving family present.
Pat was born on July 2, 1937, in Tell City, Ind., daughter of William E. and Philomena A. (Kleeman) Miller. Pat grew up in Tell City, Ind., and graduated from Tell City High School in 1955. After putting herself through college, she graduated from Indiana University with an AB degree in journalism and English in 1963. On that same graduation day, she and Leon Berell (Bery) Kornreich were married, and just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
Known as “Mrs. K.,” Pat was a dedicated teacher at Penobscot Elementary School for 23 years from 1976-1999. She created a summer reading program that provided children with books, encouraged them to pursue summer reading for pleasure and helped them to gain steady progress in their reading abilities. She was a semifinalist for the Maine Teacher of the Year in 1990. Pat was an avid community volunteer, gardener and grammarian. She was an extraordinarily loving mother of two, grandmother of four, sister of four, and aunt to 13. She is survived by her husband, Bery Kornreich of Penobscot, her daughter Susan Kornreich Wolf and son-in-law Mike of Moline, Ill., and daughter Anne Kornreich Roy and son-in-law Ruben of Nyack, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Maxwell Wolf, Bennett Wolf, Madeleine McCann and Layla Roy; sister Wilma Poehlein and her husband, Raymond, sister Virginia Cooper and her husband, Bruce, brother Clifford Miller and his wife, Jane, sister-in-law Margaret, and 13 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Eugene Miller.
