MANHASSET, N.Y.
Melvin Horowitz, 87, of Manhasset, N.Y., passed away June 14, 2018, at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset. He was born to Morris and Lillian (Leavitt) Horowitz in the Bronx, N.Y., on June 17, 1930.
Mel graduated from James Monroe High School in the Bronx. He served in the U.S. Army and was employed by the New York Department of Agriculture as an inspector.
He married Renee Goldberg at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan on Sept. 6, 1952. They raised two children, Fayann and Marc.
Mel had a passion for his children and for helping others. He was a voracious reader and he loved life itself.
He is survived by Fayann, Marc and wife Jessica, and a granddaughter Kaylee Renee. His cousin Marty Karp. Also special friends Mickey Halbert and Jimmy Lee. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, Renee, and sister Florence Diamond of Houston, Texas.
There was a funeral service June 17 at Sinai Chapels, Fresh Meadows, N.Y. Interment was at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Flushing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Melvin wanted to thank his friend Jimmy Lee for helping him with his medical appointments. Also, the care and concerns of all his dear friends and relatives during this past year.
